    You will love this this unique hand-carved Noah's Ark gourd ornament which whimsically illustrates the story of Noah's Ark in the Hebrew Bible. It makes a great decoration in your home as a way to celerate the Christmas season or for a child's room. On one side of the gourd is a carved image of Noah's Ark with elephants and other animals entering, on another side giraffes and birds waiting in line, and then there is a nicely etched image of Noah himself. Gourds are a natural and uniquely shaped vegetable, similar to a pumpkin or a squash. As such, designs, shape and dimensions will vary slightly.     Each of these egg-shapped boxes are hand-carved from white soap-stone (river stones) in the Leogane and Gressier regions of Haiti. These were also the areas worst affected by the earthquake of 2010. A devesating earthquake that killed an estimated 250,000 people and displaced more than 1.5 million. Although that was many years ago, many are still struggling to recover from the affects. Available in two sizes, each purchase of these beautiful stone sculptures will help artisans rebuild their lives.     We brought back our amazing white elephant. It is made of white soapstone and was hand carved by our Haitian Artisans. The stone is soaked in water to make it easier to handle. It then is hammered, chiseled and filed to get the right lines. This process could take hours depending on the piece they are creating. They then sand and buff to get the soft luster on the pieces.     Bats are very popular in Halloween folklore as they are closely associated with vampires. Native to the Americas, from Mexico to Argentina, the common vampire bat feeds mostly on the blood of mammals (including humans). These bats hunt only when it is fully dark; once it locates a host, such as a sleeping mammal, it lands and approaches it on the ground. Our aesthetically crafted gourd boxes with flying bat silhouettes in black and orange are made by artisans at Tito Medina's workshop in Huancayo Peru. Gourd carving is a traditional craft of the Andean mountain region and in the Medina family it spans four generations. The art of carving gourds is helping to bring sustainable income to more than 20 artisans and their families.
