Gourd Carving is a traditional craft of the high Andean Mountains of Peru. Each gourd is skinned, cleaned, and sun-dried before artisans etch and burn the intricate designs that adorn its surface. These exquisite designs have been created by women in the area of Comasagua. It's best to cut flowers in the afternoon, after the morning dew has had a chance to evaporate. Their are several ways to dry a flower, you can use a flower press, a book or a microwave. Be prepared, this takes time.

Get out your magnifying glass; it is incredible to contemplate how the artisans can produce an entire nativity scene inside a shell that is so small.
