The tradition of handcrafting baskets is a labor intensive and highly skilled craft that has been a part of the Rwandan culture for centuries and is passed down from generation to generation. These baskets are used as containers for grain and food products, as packages for small gifts, and in times past Rwandan women used them to exchange secret greetings or messages with one another.
Woven from natural sisal fiber and hand dyed in red and white at Gahaya Links, these hand-dyed and crafted baskets make a beautiful decorative accessory for your home. Having started with a modest group of 20 artisans in 2004, Gahaya Links now works towards the social and economic empowerment of over 4000 basket weavers in the region.

Mr. Gupta has trained several youth from Lakshya who work at his center to create these natural pencils. Discarded neem twigs are used for these pencils, and no trees are harmed in the making of this product. Available in regular graphite and colored options. These special pencils are made by youth at Lakshya shelter home in Faridabad, India. Lakshya primarily supports children and youth who have run away from their homes. Lakshya, sends the younger children to local schooling facilities, and the youth are given vocational trainings to help earn a living and support themselves. Vetiver is a natural grass which is known for its aromatic properties. Vetiver also known as khus, in certain parts of Asia. These vetiver and vine birdhouses make for a unique and natural home for our avian friends.
Sprinkle the birdhouse with a little water and feel the earthy aroma of vetiver disperse in the atmosphere. Vetiver is abundantly grown in Haiti, these bird houses are made by Haitien artisans from Artisan Business Network.

Caña Flecha is a sugar cane like plant that can only be found along the coastal regions of Colombia, South America. The Zenu Tribe cultivates the thin stalk-like leaves using processes and techniques that date back to the 1500s and weaves them into various geometic patterns creating these unique bracelets.
Artisans at the fair trade organization Joyeria Semilla are known for creating jewelry from materials readily available in their environment including seeds, natural fibers and leaves. Joyeria Semilla’s objectives are to create new jobs, to revive Colombia's traditional handicrafts and to better manage their natural resources.

Gourd Carving is a traditional craft of the high Andean Mountains of Peru. Each gourd is skinned, cleaned, and sun-dried before artisans etch and burn the intricate designs that adorn its surface. In addition the artisans accented this gourd with ceramic pieces that represent the ears and feet, and fitted it with a wooden nose.
Gourds are also a natural and uniquely shaped vegetable, similar to a pumpkin or a squash. As such, designs, shape and dimensions will vary slightly.
